Michigan Advisory Board for African Missions
The Michigan Advisory Board for African Missions is an advisory board within COFA organized to promote the ministry collaborative opportunities for Michigan churches, the Michigan District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), and individuals residing in Michigan. The Advisory Board does not have its own corporate authority, although it is registered with the State of Michigan to do business and make charitable solicitations. COFA Board exercises oversight and supervision of Advisory Board’s activities, including assurance that donations received through the Advisory Board are acknowledged and restrictions on donations are honored.
The Advisory Board consists of lay leaders and pastors. The Advisory Board’s purposes are to:
· Promote COFA’s mission;
· Represent Michigan Lutheran churches in fundraising for mission work in Africa to be facilitated, executed and supervised by and through COFA and its complimentary organizations including Christian Outreach for Africa-South Africa (COFA-SA) and Christian Outreach for Uganda (COFU);
· Develop Strategic Mission Planning for Africa;
· Recommend and raise funds for specific African mission projects;
· Develop a plan and strategy for utilizing the skills, interests and characteristics of each member for optimal effect in fundraising or other areas.
The authority of the Advisory Board is set out in a resolution adopted by the COFA Board of Directors.
