“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”
- 3 John 1:2
Health Clinic, Mhluzi, South Africa
COFA helped build a health clinic on the campus of St. Peter Christian College where it now provides health services to the people of Mhluzi through its partners in the U.S. and South Africa. The health clinic consists of a main office, consulting rooms for general practitioner, dentistry and optometry services, vital data check room (blood pressure / glucose etc.), storage rooms, private consulting rooms, workshop, board room and kitchenette.
Caring Friends 4 Life
Caring Friends 4 Life is a Christian non-profit organization that sends short-term mission teams throughout South Africa in response to needs and requests from schools, communities and church bodies. Its programs include:
– Eyeglass Ministry
– Peer Education and Social Behavioural Change (YOLO)
– HIV /AIDS Awareness & Testing
– Community Mobilisation and Awareness Campaigns
– Community Outreach Support and Caring (CCMDD)
– Health Awareness & Edutainment
COFA provides Caring Friends with access to its clinic and financial support for its services.
Eye Glass Program
Through our partnership with Caring Friends and MOST Ministries, an Ann Arbor, Michigan nonprofit organization, we have been able to provide eye exams and eyeglasses to Mhluzi residents.
CUW Physician Assistant Collaboration
Physician Assistant students from Concordia University Wisconsin work at the COFA clinic and orphanage as part of their rotation at Middleburg District hospital. After a two year absence due to COVID, eight students are planning to take part in this program in 2023.
Future Health Clinic Services
Short-term plans for our clinic include providing feminine hygiene and dental services. Long-term plans include participation in South African government programs such as the Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) program and the Central Chronic Medicine Dispensing and Distribution program. All these plans are dependent on COFA being able to obtain funding for sufficient staff and supplies.
